The deepest Lake in Ukraine

Svityaz or Svitiaz ( Світязь in Ukrainian) is considered to be one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine in the Volyn region. It is also the deepest lake in Ukraine. A maximum depth is 58.4 meters.

The lake is a part of Shatsk National Nature Park. The Shatsky National Nature Park (an area of 32 500 hectares) was established in 1983. Today, it includes 22 lakes (not all) of the Volyn region. The largest of the Shatsk`s lakes is Svitiaz (27.5 km), the second largest natural lake in Ukraine after the Yalpug Lake (or Ialpug), Pulemetsk Lake (16.3 km), Luke (6.8 km), Lyutsimir (4.3 km), Ostrovyansk Lake (2.5 km), Krymnoe (1.44 km), Pesochnoe Lake (1.86 km).

In the middle of the lake there is an island of 7 hectares in size. The average depth of the Lake is 6.9 m. The length of the lake is 9.3 km. The biggest width is 8 km. The lake warms in the summer. The water is very clean due to argent content with a  sand bottom. Svityaz is very popular destination for a family tourism. Children are always fond of the Lake.

There are are many species of fish in Shatsk`s lakes: perch, roach, pike, bream, crucian, carp, catfish, eel, Canadian catfish, Amur carp and cancers. During your trip, you can enjoy fishing.
The forests are rich in berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, cranberry) and mushrooms.
Everyone can have an opportunity to get acquainted with the life of the rural population of the Ukrainian Polissy, staying for a night in rural estates.
